One-Word Story

The group tells a story together one word at a time โ€” each person adds a single word in turn, and the tale goes somewhere nobody planned.

How to run it

  1. Sit or stand in a circle. The first person says one word to begin a story โ€” for example, "Yesterday".
  2. Going around the group, each person adds exactly one word, building on the sentence so far.
  3. Keep it flowing โ€” say your word quickly without overthinking, and let punctuation happen naturally (someone can say "period" to end a sentence).
  4. Carry on until the story reaches a natural (or hilarious) ending. For a twist, set a theme or a required final line up front.
